I had to modify this script to work at my host, because the database host is not localhost.

The script already has a line for the IP address of the mysql server, which I filled out:

DBHOST=example.database.com

Then I had to modify the mysqldump command line to include the host (-h):

mysqldump -h$DBHOST -u$USERNAME -p$PASSWORD $DBNAME | gzip > $BACKUPDIR/mysql_backup_$DATE.gz;

Very good post. Can you advice ma an hosting billing script that is able to manage multiple companies, so it is possible to avoid to log-in everytime to every billing script to manage. I have three hosting companies, but if I find found something like this they could become 6-8
